F.L.A.S.H Families learning about self harm is a dedicated series of workshops for parents and carers who support young people that self harm as a way of managing their distress. 

Who are we ? 

– Luke – 

Working within inpatient CAMHS services for 15 years, Luke has dedicated his career to supporting young people, parents and carers. Luke is also the Dorset lead trainer of FLASH and has been working closely with the ministry of parenting CIC for over a decade. Luke is a sea scout leader and father of two young adventurers. Luke is also a qualified learning disability nurse and executive coach. http://www.lukewebbcoaching.com

– Tracy  – 

Tracy is a counsellor and FLASH facilitator supporting children and young people through her work at Dorset Mind in partnership with the NHS. Alongside this, she runs a private counselling practice working with adults and is developing her specialist practice with children and young people. Tracy is also a nature wellbeing facilitator offering eco therapy and nature based group experiences through her private work. She is a Mum of three, bringing professional and lived experience into her work.

FLASH (Families Learning About Self Harm) is a parenting program by The Ministry of Parenting designed to help parents and carers support young people (aged 11–17) who exhibit self-harming behaviours. It provides practical strategies to manage family stress, improve communication, and build better relationships, delivered in 10 weekly sessions. 

Key Aspects of FLASH:

  • Goal: To reduce family anxiety, worries and fears, build courage and resilience whilst offering tools for understanding and managing self-harm.
  • Workshop Themes: Topics include understanding self-harm, listening skills, building self-esteem, coping strategies, and managing difficult situations.
  • Target Audience: Parents/carers of young people exhibiting self-harming behaviours.
  • Structure: A 10 session workshop, 6pm -8pm, every Wednesday in Bournemouth.
  • Cost: £250 per person or £400 per couple parenting the same child.

The program, developed by the Ministry of Parenting CIC, is not considered group therapy or counselling, but rather a structured educational workshop to help parents feel more equipped to handle the emotional challenges of self-harm in their family. This workshop contains no power points and is an interactive workshop to support your learning and development.
